Technia has provided digital solutions that improve efficiency, collaboration and sustainability in a large-scale infrastructure project in the Netherlands. The project, Nieuwe Sluis Terneuzen, inaugurated in 2024, consists of locks and waterways that improve shipping between the North Sea, Belgium and the Netherlands. The system enables passage for ocean-going vessels of the same size as those passing through the Panama Canal. This investment in a more efficient and sustainable transport infrastructure is expected to benefit the region’s social and economic development.
The facility is one of the world’s largest lock projects, with several international players involved, which also posed major logistical challenges. Handling large amounts of data, many parallel construction works at the same time, and different administrative routines in the countries involved made the project complex and difficult to manage. A powerful digital solution was needed for easy document management, effective communication and a clear process overview. The solution was for Technia to implement Alfamail VISI, a centralized and automated document management system. Tailored workflows, streamlined handling of large amounts of activities and a special quality control solution that combined both Dutch and Flemish routines resulted in structure and clarity for all actors in the project.
In summary, the document management solution that Technia implemented has eliminated many unnecessary work steps, reduced many hours of manual work and strengthened cooperation between the different project organizations in the countries involved. More efficient workflows and better optimized digital collaborations have increased resource efficiency and laid the foundation for a more sustainable and future-proof digital infrastructure in the maritime industry.
